Today I got lost.
When Chloe and I were coming back to Albertslund from Copenhagen, we had to ask which platform our train was on even though we knew which train we needed, missed the first one, got on the second one, got on the right numbered bus and headed the wrong way. This is me with Chloe.
I didn't see our stop listed on the sheet next to the bus but it was the right number so we got on it anyway.
Chloe asked the bus driver where our stop was after we had been riding for a while...so we got off when he told us it would be faster to walk back than to ride the bus all the way around. So, after we had been walking for about an hour with our new 50 or so pound bags of books, we saw the same bus driver drive past us. I tried to call Bjarne at the home phone and the cell phone but my rental phone wouldn't let me make calls. So I don't know what's wrong with it. I sent him a text saying we're lost and I can't make calls but I didn't know if he got it so we kept walking. When we were about 2 kilometers away from their house, he called me and said to stay put and he'd come and get us. I'm pretty sure we walked at least a few kilometers with HEAVY books and no idea where we were.
My books (they are all huge because they are science classes, yuck).
There are six total and three of them are for my Human Health and Disease class.
This isn't including what I'll have for my Danish class :-(
This is me right now at 11pm, extra tired from my "adventure".
From where we got picked up, we drove to the Norreport area in Copenhagen where Louise lives and was having a 3rd birthday party for her daughter, Sne.
This is Sne.
We met a bunch of family and a few friends of the family and most of them spoke English pretty well. We ate lasagna, a salad with peanuts in it and feta cheese, some bread, soup, falafel balls, pasta salad, sparkling juice, etc.
I should have taken pictures because that's my thing but I left my camera in the car, haha. We also had lasagna and salad last night as our first meal here and Bjarne made a really good pesto sauce with sun-dried tomatoes and garlic that was delicious on the salad and potatoes.
Anyway,
This morning Linda showed us how to get on the bus and the train from where we live. We went to the Tivoli Hotel for our opening ceremony thing where the DIS Strings played a couple songs and the administration welcomed us and told us some things.
Then we walked into the city and found where DIS Vestergade 23 was, picked up our extremely heavy books, and then walked out to the fountain to eat lunch with some friends.
To my dismay, there were pigeons everywhere.
I really don't like/am afraid of birds.
Also, please step away from my backpack, birds, or I will have Taylor remove you.
Next, we walked to the Grand Theatre where we were going to hear about Student Affairs at DIS. The movie theater was very cool looking, but the chairs were just too darn comfy so everyone kept falling asleep.
I saw a wine bar right next to the theater while we were waiting outside, but no one wanted to go in with me, so I took a picture.
But the birthday party was very fun even though there was a lot of Danish being spoken. They were all very friendly and funny and blondish and active and talk a lot.
We were there from 5-9pm, 4:50pm being about the time we got picked up from the bus stop far away from home.
Last night, the dog Molly wanted to sleep with me.
My bed wasn't even made yet.
And this morning she came to visit me, too.
And here is the patio/courtyard where we ate dinner yesterday.
It's very cute.
I hope I don't get lost tomorrow. I have to turn in my Danish Residence Permit application, which I accidentally paid for twice ($300 each time, boy it seems like everyone wants my money). So I have to figure out how to get my money back. And when we were lost, we were in a zone that our transportation passes don't cover so we wouldn't have been able to get on the bus anyway.
We think we're getting bikes ASAP.
That will also be expensive. But I think it will be worth it to not have to rely so heavily on the bus.
