Culture Night, Haunted House, and Lazy Weekend

Friday

Kulturnatten!

Both my classes were cancelled for the day so I spent a lot of time in bed watching TV and doing a small amount of homework. Around 4pm I left to meet Jo and some people from the buddy network, but I took the wrong bus and was confused about where we were meeting so I was very lost for an hour until I finally met up with them.

We wanted to see an exhibit inside some building that used to be a church, but we circled the building and couldn't find the entrance. So we went to the city hall and got cold crepes/pancakes with Danish whipped cream (sugarless, natural tasting) and they were filled with a custard. Delicious, though.

Then we met up with Taylor and we went to the Medieval reenactment and got more pancakes, but these ones were filled with homemade applesauce and sprinkled with sugar and were hot and much larger than the other ones. We also saw the stables under Christiansborg Slot.

There were so many things we could have seen, but after me being late, we ran out of time pretty quickly.

So then we went to the DIS building on Skindergade where the haunted house was to dress up and eat a little turkey and pasta and tour the haunted house we had kinda sorta helped to set up.

Taylor and I were killer clowns. Taylor borrowed her 10 year old host sister's costume and has short hair so the clown wig fit well.

I looked kind of frumpy compared to her.

Emily (on the left) was supposed to be a midget (because the theme of the haunted house was a dead circus, so she was part of the freak show...political correctness?) and Jo was a fortune teller.

After a short amount of time screaming at people, my voice was gone. We dressed at 8pm and started scaring at 9pm. The younger kids and couples were easily scared whereas large groups of people were tough to scare. Young kids were at the back entrance trying to get me to come out so they could take a picture of me, so I was playing their game and I scared them good, haha.

I could hear the Danish word for clown a lot, and one guy said, "American's do this well," and at one point I accidentally ripped down a curtain so I scared myself and then everyone I had tried to scare laughed at me! Taylor and I had a good setup, though. She would stand in the corner and look broken and creepy and I would wait behind the curtain near the exit. When they thought they were done I would pull away the curtain and scare them, muahahaha.

After we washed up around 12:30am, we went to a jazz cafe and it was packed! Usually they charge an entrance fee, but not on Culture Night. Most people were tired so we left kind of soon, and Taylor and I went to 7-11 and bought Ben&Jerry's ice cream and ate it as we waited for the trains home.

Saturday

Taylor wanted to sleep a little late because her family woke her up early when they were leaving for Crete (where they have a Greek island vacation home) for the week. So, I did some homework and slept and watched TV (as per the usual) until around 3:30pm when I left for Taylor's host family's house to cook dinner together and watch the season 3 premier of American Horror Story.

This is their dog, Chica.

She's kind of dumb.

We made chocolate chip pumpkin hazelnut cookies, and the dough was delicious.

We also made pumpkin French toast on ciabatta bread.

And the cookies turned out more like scones because they were big and cakey.

Sunday

It was a cold, rainy, dark day in Denmark.

And instead of going home in the morning, Taylor and I slept until around 1pm. Then we ate cookies and chocolate mysli with yogurt for breakfast and I made delicious coffee and we watched The Ring. I also stayed for dinner, and Taylor cooked for her roommate Becca and me. It was some polenta and canned beef stuff. It was goooood.

Then I did a little homework. I came home around 9:30pm.

One of Molly's puppies is staying here for a while, and he is amazingly adorable and precious. I think his name is Rufus. He has slightly longer hair that is soft and he has more black and brown than Molly. Molly hates him and tries to eat him and keep him out of her sight or there will be a lot of barking.

And I have two tests this week. But the relaxing weekend was great.
