Rainy Days

Sunday

It was a crappy day to go out, but I went to Tivoli with Madhuri anyway.

It was pouring raining for a while,

I forgot how much these pumpkins weighed, but it was a lot more than me.

It was the last day Tivoli was open until the Christmas set-up, which opens November 15, so it was PACKED there! Even though it was so rainy.

I got a hot cider, though! And mini doughnuts with powdered sugar and white chocolate. They were so delicious together.

Madhuri had never tried flodeboller, so we bought a white chocolate one and split it. Splitting a flodebolle is very hard, I recommend eating them by yourself.

There was a show on stage, I think it was for kids, and they were singing kiddy songs and dancing and wearing costumes. I was laughing a lot.

It was very cool in the dark. The lanterns were awesome!

So I tried to buy some aebleskiver, but suddenly, after two months of being in Denmark and using my debit card, no vendors are accepting debit cards without a chip. Too bad, because I try not to buy things at places that don't accept my card out of spite. This also happened at Aldi, so I went and got some cash and went to a different store to buy stuff.

Monday

Hurricane in Denmark!

I was biking home just as the winds and rains were hitting Copenhagen. There were branches falling down all around me, and it was hard to pedal against the strong wind, but I made it. After I got home, I read on facebook that all the trains were delayed or stopped running. All week there were problems with trains.

Tuesday

I was going to go out to a bar for a girl's 21st birthday, but as I was riding my bike home for dinner, I noticed all the street lights were out, probably because of the storm. As I biked in the pitch blackness, I was scared I was going to hit a rock and fall off my bike and die. My bike light was flashing and it was about to give me a seizure. So, when I got home, I decided not to go back out and to instead watch many episodes of Game of Thrones, which is a great show. Like Lord of the Rings.

Wednesday

Basically did nothing until 5pm when I had to go to DIS to watch the movie "Mar Adentro" for Medical Ethics. I got there at 5:25, 5 minutes before we were supposed to be there, and the pizza dinner we were promised was almost gone. There were no drinks provided. I felt jipped. People that came 5 minutes late almost didn't get any pizza.

Thursday

Halloween!

Again, I might have gone to some Halloween parties, but besides the fact that I don't really go out much because I don't like it, I didn't have a costume and I had class at 10am the next morning, meaning I wake up at 7am, meaning I couldn't stay out late if I wanted to be awake for class.

Nothing interesting happened. I ate dinner and watched Game of Thrones and went to bed.

Friday

Finally, some fun!

Besides the fact that it was cold and windy, I had some fun going out!

It was the release of Carlsberg's Julebryg, or the Christmas beer. It's sold for 10 weeks of the year and is the fourth best-selling beer in Denmark anyway. Danes probably loved a reason to make it a holiday, J-dag. I invited Josie and Jesal.

I went out with the buddy network to experience J-dag. We went to three or four bars total.

The first bar was Temple Bar, and a lot of people were wearing white and blue and there was Christmas music playing for a bit.

After that, we went to another bar and sat outside and ate some nuts and olives.

After that, we chased Christmas beer truck, and they did a little song and dance and there was cheering as they brought crates of Christmas beer into yet another bar.

Then we went to a bar with a ping-pong table and it was a 25kr deposit to get a paddle. We played a game where everyone started around the table and hit the ball once and went to the other side of the table. It was pretty fun, and I was pretty bad, mostly because I was a little tipsy. But the last time around, I made it more than halfway. If you hit a bad shot or miss in any way, you leave the game. So I'm pretty proud of my last round :)

Then we went to a hyggeligt bar and the people in this picture were singing and making a lot of noise.

Around 2:30am, Jo, Taylor, Emily, and I went to a kebab place and got some food. I had a chicken durum. It was pretty good, until I saw the meat and how they shaved it, haha.

Saturday

It was Linda's birthday!

They were having a party in the forest by the horses, where there was a gazebo thing with benches and a fire pit for cooking.

It was raining. It was really, really muddy.

Molly was wearing a rain coat type jacket and she was rolling in the dirt and digging around and she ended up very, very muddy.

Linda and her family and friends were all getting together to eat and the kids could ride the horses, and I invited Taylor to come with me so I wouldn't be the only American there.

Chloe came for a bit then left to watch a soccer game. We were eating mostly meat, anyway, so she wouldn't have enjoyed that.

There was a meat soup, hot dogs, aebleskiver (like apple muffin balls), glogg (hot red wine with nuts and raisins in it), bread, soda, and beer.

There were probably 30 people there.

Taylor and I left around 3 and walked all the way home because the bus wasn't coming for 30 minutes or so, and our walk took about 40 minutes. Then, we biked to Fakta (a grocery store) and tried to find a bike light for Taylor because hers was stolen. We didn't find a bike light, but we found microwave popcorn and cookies. Her bike sounded like it could fall apart any minute.

Then we watched 3 episodes of American Horror Story and a couple episodes of the Danish show, Rita, and then Taylor was falling asleep. I decided to try to cut off my split ends, but I stopped pretty soon because it seemed like a bad idea.

I really need a hair cut.

So I slept on the hard floor and Taylor slept in my bed and I slept horribly but that's ok.

Sunday

I woke up around 9 and got into bed with Taylor and went back to sleep. Haha.

Around noon we left because I had to go meet people for group projects at DIS.

I hate group projects.

I have to write two group papers, I did a group case study, I have two group presentations, and a partner oral exam in Danish this week.

Luckily my mom and grandma are coming on Wednesday, so I'll hopefully have the motivation to finish everything before they get here...
