Thursday
Bought some Halls cough drops at the 7-11 at the train station.
Early day, I wasn't feeling very well either. I went to Medical Ethics and Danish and had a good time because I like those classes.
I don't exactly remember what I did then, probably studied a little for my immunology test and probably napped.
I signed up for this thing called the Buddy Network that's supposed to be a group of people you don't know, a mix of Danes and DIS students, and you all go to events together or cook together or whatever you want. Tonight was our first meeting, kind of just a brain-storming session about things we wanted to do. There were supposed to be 15 people per group, but only about 8 people showed up. But, the coordinator brought 2 big wienerbrøds, one was chocolate and one was custardy and sugary.
There was also tea and coffee and soda and fruit so I was happy.
We talked about going to the coordinator's house (her name is Jo, pronounced Yo) and cooking dinner or watching a movie. We might go to museums. We might do a bar crawl. We might go for a walk in a park. Just anything really.
Friday
Woke up, took a test in Immunology, didn't feel very confident in it, went to Developmental Disorders, didn't work with the guy who knows everything so it was better.
I went to DIS because I had an extra zone on my transportation pass and I wanted to switch it to one I would use. The guy said no, it was a mistake and that I should go to Nørreport and get a refund for that zone and then bring the money back and that I shouldn't hesitate at all about whether or not that was the right thing to do. I didn't think it was the right thing to do because it was their mistake and he was rude and when I hesitated he said fine, I don't want to talk about this anymore. So I said thank you and left. And I really didn't know what to do. So I went to Nørreport and asked the lady to switch my zone 54 for zone 33 which I would use to go to volleyball, and she said, "well I can't do anything until I see your pass". So I gave it to her. And she was having a little trouble with the computer. And she asked "which zone don't you need?" So I said 54, so after a while she made me a new pass without zone 54 and gave me some money and then looked finished. So I asked, "oh, could I get zone 33 on here?" And she said, "you expect me to do that right now? It's a little late for that, don't you think?" So I said, "well that's what I asked for originally". And she said "no you didn't, you asked for a refund so I gave you money, why would you take the money if that's not what you asked for?" And she was getting really lippy and mean and kept telling me that's not what I asked for and implying that she wasn't going to do anything else for me so I said "ok, thanks" and left. Basically today sucked, and I hate people, and I was doing everything perfect and everyone else misunderstood me and yelled at me.
I went home and napped, and thought Human Health and Disease started at 4 like on Tuesday but I was wrong so I walked in and most people were there listening to the guest speaker. We learned about emergency medicine and the guest speaker was kind of scary, and he had a monotone voice and would make sudden jokes that would be really funny so that kept my attention.
At the end of the class, I saw the attendance sheet and my name had a division symbol by it, because I was late? Whoops. I thought I would be 15 minutes early.
Then I met up with Taylor who was planning a trip to Italy with one of her friends, which I am super jealous of because no one responded to my suggestion on the group or in person about traveling through Italy. Taylor and I have different weeks off, though. I guess I'll train through Italy some other time...
Taylor and I split a piece of cake at La Glace, which is a very nice bakery.
Then we were hungry for real food so we went to a pizza place.
It said "eat all you can" but we think that's the same as "all-you-can-eat".
They charged us for water, but we got unlimited pizza and salad for 79kr. Water was 10kr. We asked for free water but the waitress they don't do that at restaurants, which they do because they can only charge you for water if there is ice or lemon in it. We had both ice and lemon, so maybe that makes it worth it? Nah. It's weird when you run into things like that, things that are common practice in the USA but that are strange here. Free water, political correctness, etc.
Then Taylor and I went to The Living Room, which is a cafe but the basement has about three rooms full of leather chairs and couches for lounging in and studying in and chatting and having drinks. We each had a strawberry daiquiri. Only 2 for 100kr...
But it was very cozy and they had big bathrooms. I want my apartment to look like that, only with a little more light.
Saturday
Woke up at 6 and got ready for my first volleyball tournament here. The ambiance brought me back to high school and club tournaments. This is me and Petra, a girl who I met at a volleyball practice on Monday. We were almost the first ones there. We were supposed to be there at 8:30, we got there around 8:20, and there were three people there, haha.
This is Andreas. He's Danish. I only took one picture and he was blinking, whoops.
One of the teams was wearing feathers, like "indians" and they were making stereotypical indian (Native American) noises like whooping every time they scored.
This is what I'm talking about when I say lack of political correctness.
I was going to go to the the volleyball afterparty, but Petra wanted to study and rest and I didn't want to go if I didn't know anyone and no one else I knew was going and I didn't know where it was and I thought maybe I should rest anyway. We ended about 2 hours earlier than I thought we would, probably because we lost every game and pretty quickly. It was really fun, though. I learned it's really hard to communicate with people who don't speak the same first language when you're under the pressure of the court. Ha, it was certainly an experience.
Also, it looks a lot like fall, now.
Overall, it has been a good week but it's been really rough because adults keep yelling at me and I'm sick and my throat really hurts and I cough all the time and it's annoying and I didn't get a lot of sleep. So now I'm going to watch movie and then sleep all day and do my readings tomorrow.
