Today is Tuesday, and I have been sick since yesterday when I woke up.
I opened my eyes and then I felt that my throat was sore, and then I walked around a little bit and felt achy and had a small headache.
At least I looked cute.
I love these boots.
Nevertheless, I decided to go to volleyball because I have been here more than three weeks and still haven't gone (because of study tours and other events, but still) and there is an all-day tournament this Saturday so the coach said we needed to show up if we wanted to play.
I thought the practice started at 6:00pm, but I was wrong. I came about 2.5 hours early and walked in to see young kids playing. When it was almost the time I thought my team would be playing, a ton of 7ft tall young Danish men came in and started. So I checked my email and learned mine started at 8pm.
So, there is a cafeteria in the sports center where they play volleyball, but I thought I'd go walk around and see stuff. I passed a Cafe & Bar and I asked if they had food, and they didn't. The bartender told me to go past the train station to find restaurants, but the Netto was closer so I just went in and shopped for some groceries to make my own dinner.
I bought some cheese singles, some sandwich turkey, a yogurt, and some dessert crepes. I made turkey and cheese wraps and dipped it in yogurt. The dessert crepes are pretty good for being so cheap and processed, haha. I think I'll warm some up tomorrow and spread some off-brand Nutella and fresh fruit (or homemade jam) on them.
In Immunology, I learned our first test is Friday. That is my least favorite class and the first one to have a test.
In Developmental Disorders, I was feeling pretty sick and had to discuss a case and make a diagnosis with people who think they know everything. One part of the case said "the child spends his time alone or with one or two friends" and one guy in the group was like "that sounds totally normal" and I said "maybe for you" so he got defensive and was like "I've been working with 12 year old boys for 8 years at camp" and I was like "what kind of camp" because I think most twelve year old boys have a few more than 2 friends and prefer to hangout with them over being alone. But what do I know compared to the guy who should be two years out of college but isn't?
Human Health and Disease was at DIS today because our doctor instructor got a new job and switched hospitals and now it's closer for her to go to DIS than Glostrup.
We learned about COPD and emphysema and pneumonias. I urge my mother here to quit smoking (sorry) because COPD sounds like hell. So does cancer.
Also, a girl walked into the bus shelter where I was sitting with a lit cigarette, smoke it for 5 minutes, then ten minutes later, lit up another one. I walked out of the shelter into the cold because I hated her and couldn't stand the smoke either because I'm sick or because it's gross and I learned about what it does to the lungs again today.
Smoking in public is illegal but everyone does it.
Volleyball was really fun. I'm glad to be playing again, even though last night I kind of felt crappy and I feel even crappier today. I twisted my ankle while I was warming up, and it popped a little (the same ankle that I keep twisting on cobblestones) so I taped it really tight and then it felt fine, haha.
Some people there had never played before or hadn't played in a long time, and the team of Danish girls/women on the court next to us need three people to make 12 (to play 6 on 6 like a real game) so two other girls and I went over there and practiced with them.
Usually when we made an error, we'd do 5 of something (sit-ups, push-ups) and I did sit-ups, so when I cough my abs really hurt now. Also, I can feel pain in all of my muscles because I worked really hard last night, but I played pretty well. I can feel the sore muscles and the aches and getting out of bed is the hardest. I napped twice today. I also have bruises because some of their volleyballs were really hard. And probably also because I haven't played really since April.
I'm looking forward to sleeping in because I have nothing until 6pm tomorrow (volleyball). Also, Thursday is our first Buddy Network meeting. I will be meeting a group of Danes and a group of DIS people that will be getting together throughout the semester for fun events and socials! YAY!
