Weekend 3

I forgot to mention that I bought some kick-ass boots on Friday.

I needed black boots because I forgot mine at home and because it's ugly to wear tennis shoes with everything and I can't wear my sandals all winter.

On Saturday, I biked to the zoo from Copenhagen Central Station in them.

There was a really big hill. This photo doesn't do it justice.

But Chloe and I made it.

It was about $26 to get in, and overall I thought the zoo was nothing special.

You could climb this, but it's not the Eiffel Tower and I felt like I'd climbed enough, and also biking up that hill made me breathless and weak and crabby.

We met up with a girl from Georgetown, who Chloe hadn't met until Denmark but now sees quite a bit, I think. I think her name is spelled like Trishla.

My favorite thing was seeing the polar bear swim. He's a water ballerina.

The seals were a close second.

Golden Lion Tamarin monkeys, super cute. But they peed everywhere and had no problem showing it.

It was a very pretty place.

I thought I deserved some churros and a water, and they were delicious.

The leopard was growling and kind of sounded like he had a hairball, and then he was pacing near some children forever.

Everything had babies. Here, the elephant baby is hiding, and he's still wrinkly like his parents.

Guanacos. Like deer/alpacas.

Capybaras.

Brown bear.

And many more!

I saw lions and otters and penguins and here is a map of the zoo.

Then, Taylor and her dad and I went out for some Asian food.
It was pretty expensive.
Thank you again, Roger!

We drank Squash, which is like orange soda but better because I think they use orange juice.

I ordered a wonton soup, which was interesting and good, and we all shared some crabmeat eggrolls. Delicious!

Then we tried to get ice cream but everywhere closes early here.
Then we heard some music and found a street dance.
There was a DJ who looked like a classic Dane and was wearing a hood.
There were some kids who came on stage and tried to rap. It was cute.
The actual singers were pretty good and were more like R&B and they sang in English.

This is the apartment Taylor's dad rented from Airbnb.

Besides the fact that it was on the 5th and highest floor and there was no elevator, it was pretty cute. The neighborhood was Vesterbro. It seemed a little far away for mom, but there are buses. There were a ton of places to eat and shops on the streets there, however.

Today is Sunday, so I did laundry, did it wrong, had Linda help me fix it, etc. Went to Amagerbro to meet up with Jaimie (from my Human Health and Disease and Medical Ethics classes, and who I hungout with on the study tour a bit). We planned a trip to Amsterdam for September 28-October 2. Apparently our hostel is in the middle of or very near the Red Light District. Hmm... Flights were the same price as the two-county Eurail pass, $175. But I would have loved to take a train. I'm learning all the places I want to go and the ways I want to go about it for when I can travel through Europe as a vacation. For example, Eurail through Italy for a month.

Happy that I finally made some plans (though it would have been cheaper if I'd planned it earlier/found someone to travel with earlier), I walked past a bakery and bought a Danish. It was DELICIOUS! It was only 10 kroner. Which is like $1.80. Cheaper than anything I'd seen near DIS. The same price as my tiny vending-machine coffee.

It's starting to look like fall!

I had to do some reading tonight but there hasn't been any actual assignments yet, so we'll see how busy I get soon.

I think I have an exam in Immunology this week.

I think we've had three classes. There is so much information in each class though, so I guess we do have enough information to be tested on. Yay...
